  • Department of Biotechnology (DBT)
    The DBT was established in 1986 under the Ministry of Science and Technology. The main objective of the DBT is to foster the Indian biotechnology sector in broad areas of agriculture, health care, animal sciences, environment, and industry by identifying, formulating, implementing and monitoring various programmes and activities.
    Initiatives have been taken to promote transgenic research in plants with emphasis on pest and disease resistance, nutritional quality, silk worm genome analysis, molecular biology of human genetic disorders, brain research, plant genome research, development, validation and commercialisation of diagnostic kits and vaccines for communicable diseases, food biotechnology, biodiversity conservation and bioprospecting.

  • Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)
    ICAR is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Agriculture that is responsible for the organization and management of research and education in all disciplines of agricultural sciences. ICAR comprises 46 Central Research Institutes (CRIs) and with its assistance 41 State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) have been established in India.

  • Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)
    ICMR is the apex body for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research in India. The Council promotes biomedical research through 21 national, mission-oriented and 6 regional research institutes and centres. Research is mainly focused on specific areas such as tuberculosis, leprosy, cholera and diarrhoeal diseases, viral diseases including AIDS, malaria, kala-azar, vector control, nutrition, food & drug toxicology, reproduction, immunohaematology, oncology, and medical statistics.

CSIR is an autonomous registered Society of the Government of India, headed by the Prime Minister as its president. The Council's objectives are promotion, guidance and coordination of scientific and industrial research in India. At present thirty eight laboratories are functioning under the aegis of CSIR, the multidisciplinary research & development organisation of the Government of India.
