Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS): Established in 1957, CAAS is China's national agricultural
research organization, directly affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture.
CAAS has about 10,000 staff members and 38
research institutes. The Academy owns about 100 scientific and
technology based enterprises with about 2,100 employees. |
Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS):
Founded in 1956, there are
18
institutes two branch institutes, five sub-academies, seven
clinical hospitals, four schools, a graduate school and a department
of experimental animal sciences in the college, covering all disciplines
in medical and health sciences. |

Chinese
Academy of Forestry (CAF):
Founded in 1958, CAF is affiliated to the
State Forestry Administration. The academy has nine research institutes,
four experimental centres and three research and development centres.
Research interests cover all forestry-related subjects. CAF employs
more than 1,600 scientists and technicians.

Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)
Founded in 1949, CAS is China's highest academic
institution. Under CAS there are 5 Academic Divisions (China's supreme
advisory bodies in science and technology, namely mathematics and
physics, chemistry, biological sciences, earth sciences and technological
sciences), 108 scientific research institutes, over 500 science
and technology enterprises, and more than 20 supporting units. CAS
has a total staff of over 58,000. |
National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)
NSFC was founded in 1986. It directs, coordinates and finacially supports basic and applied research, identifies and fosters scientific talents and promotes science and technology in China. The total funding reached up to 2.9 billion RMB in 2004 (from 80 million RMB in 1986).
