Prominent genome projects: Sea Urchin (Strongylocentrotus purpuratus )
|
The Sea Urchin (Strongylocentrotus purpuratus ) is an important model system in the study of marine and basic biology, particularly in developmental biology. The genome of a male California Sea Urchin was sequenced
by a group of 240 researchers from more than 70 institutions using the Clone-Array Pooled Shotgun Sequencing (CAPSS). The draft genome was released in September, 2006 and published in Science (November, 2006).
