Prominent Genome Projects: Homo sapiens

In 1986 the Department of Energy (DOE) announced its Human Genome Initiative. The dawn of the International Human Genome has broken.

The Human Genome Project (HGP), formally launched in the USA in 1990, is an international effort to discover all human genes and make the genomic information accessible for the life sciences community. The completion of the draft sequence of the human genome, which covers 94% of the genome, was announced in June, 2000.
